If you have been to Philmont Scout Ranch or the enchanted triangle region of New Mexico or not, you have experienced the magic of seeing plains turn into foothills, and foothills into mountains. In that place, you can still see horses used for transport and work, and walk the very passes that mountain men like Kit Carson first named on their way west. Although I cannot adequately describe in words what it feels like to look down on the valley from this trail, I did try to capture it in paint.
This piece was an absolute labor of love, requiring about 300 hours over 3 years to complete. I hope it brings the wonder of exploring mountains horseback to your living room.
